Titre : AIDS : Living and dying with hope, issues in pastoral care Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Walter J Smith, Auteur Editeur : New York : Paulist press Année de publication : 1988 Importance : 1 vol. (184 p.) Format : 23 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-8091-3000-9 Langues : Anglais Mots-clés : Morale -- Sexualité -- société
SIDA -- malades -- soinsRésumé : The diagnosis of AIDS or its related syndrome starts a circle of tremors that disrupt a patient, his or her loved ones, family, friends and the larger society. The victim's worries are not only medical, but spiritual and psychosocial as well. Human relationships are strained. Meaning systems are suddenly challenged.
A pastoral minister assisting in the care of AIDS patients must be sensitive to a range of complicated issues. In addition to providing care during an obvious crisis of helath, a minister is often called on to help patients deal with unresolved issues on sexuality, the phobias and fears of family members and the grief generated by a life cut tragically short.
This book is written to help pastoral ministers provide genuine and affective care for persons with AIDS. The AIDS syndrome and disease, its related diseases, prognosis and medical care are clearly and adequately described.
The ministerial care of terminal AIDS patients is explored thoroughly, along with the religious outreach to family and survivors. The book can also help pastors to deepen their own values about death, love, sexuality, faithfulness and the radical meaning of life. Even in crisis situations- and perhaps especially then- this book can assist in the discovery of what it means to live and die with hope.
Walter J.Smith, S.J. is a dean of the Wetson School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was formerly chairperson of the department of psychology at Fairfield University in Connecticut. He is consultant for many hospitals, church and governement service agencies, and is the author of a book on care for the dying.Permalink : http://bibliothequeucm.educassist.mg/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=53 AIDS : Living and dying with hope, issues in pastoral care [texte imprimé] / Walter J Smith, Auteur . - New York : Paulist press, 1988 . - 1 vol.
